AIB customers fume as huge issues with app reported while bank frantically works to fix glitch

AIB customers were left frustrated on Thursday afternoon after many were left unable to access the bank's app.

Dozens of people took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction that they could not access their accounts via their smartphones.

AIB said in a statement on Twitter: "AIB Internet Banking & the Mobile Banking app are currently experiencing technical difficulties. The issue is also affecting card eCommerce transactions that require Strong Customer Authentication. We are working to resolve the matter and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

A customer care representative for the financial institution also sought to allay concerns by informing people that work was underway to fix the issue.

They said in response to one query: "We are currently experiencing intermittent technical issues. We are working hard to resolve this and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

In another reply, they wrote: "We do not have a time-frame for when this will be resolved unfortunately. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused."

AIB customers reported that they were unable to access their accounts through the app, while others could log in but subsequently faced issues.

One person said: "Is there a problem with the @AIBIreland app? Cannot book or pay for any online services. Verified by Visa process not working. Push notifications are on."

A second said: "Anyone else having trouble logging into AIB mobile app today? Timed out.... constantly @AskAIB."

A third commented: "@AIBIreland trying to purchase tickets online and security check to app/text not working. Very frustrating."

A fourth wrote: "@AskAIB Are there issues with the AIB banking App? Have tried 5 times now to log in and keep getting a login timeout message."

Someone else said: "@AIBIreland can only log in to the app sometimes as it won't "continue" and when it does it keeps going back to the log in page after I've put in my pin."

Another customer wrote: "@AskAIB Are you having issues wirh with the Aib mobile app, I can't log in."
