CHENNAI: An AIADMK candidate for the urban local body polls in Kancheepuram was found hanging at his house on Thursday.
His father lodged a complaint alleging that his son ended his life due to threats from political opponents.
The victim, V Janakiraman, 36, was the AIADMK candidate for ward 36 in Kancheepuram municipal corporation and was also a ward secretary. Janakiraman filed his nomination last week and was canvassing votes .He was also present at the campaign where AIADMK co-convenor and former CM Edappadi K Palaniswami introduced the candidates in Kancheepuram on Wednesday.
On Wednesday night, his brother was sleeping with him when Janakiraman was found hanging from the ceiling in a sitting posture. He informed the family members. The Vishnu Kanchi police registered a case and sent the body for postmortem. Several party workers protested blocking the road connecting Kancheepuram and Chengalpet demanding action against those responsible for the death.
