AI software start-up gets The Agile Pirate on board

AI-driven software startup Airts has hired Simon Cromarty - known as blogger The Agile Pirate - as its first vice president of engineering.

Cromarty moves home to the Edinburgh-based firm from Cambridge, where he was VP of engineering at fashion tech company Metai. He describes himself on Twitter as a "shy extrovert fuelled by rum, music, & human contact".

Airts also announced the appointment of Lumila Walker as front end designer and Adrian Dragus as senior software engineer.

Airts, whose Braid product provides AI-powered people planning software for the professional services industry, made the appointments on the back of year on year revenue growth of over 300%. It counts NHS Lothian, Edinburgh counci, PwC and one other Big Four accountancy firm as clients and Braid is used by more than 10,000 practitioners across seven countries and four continents.

Co-founder and CEO Andrew Bone said, “We’re excited that demand for Braid means we need to continue to scale, but we’re also determined to grow sustainably, strengthening the team culture we’ve built. Simon, Ludmila and Adrian all met the high hiring bar we set ourselves and we look forward to benefiting from their expertise in these exciting times for Airts.”

This year, Braid won the ScotlandIS 2019 Best New Product award, and a Scottish Accountancy & Financial Technology Award, and is continuing to hire to meet growing global demand.
