AI marketing start-up Machine Labs launches platform on Shopify

Edinburgh start-up Machine Labs has officially launched its digital marketing platform that aims to help online minnows compete with ecommerce giants.

The Edinburgh firm's software is integrated with Shopify and has already been named as a Top Pick on the Canadian ecommerce platform's App Store.

Founder and chief executive Andrew Veitch said: "The launch hugely exceeded my expectations. We've had over 300 installs, everywhere from Azerbaijan to Australia and New York to New Delhi, so we're working hard throughout the night to keep up with the demand."

The firm was backed last June with a £1 million seed funding round, £800,000 of it from Techstart Ventures. Other investors included angel investor Kevin Dorren, online dating tycoon Bill Dobbie, Richard Freedman and Scottish Enterprise.

Dorren previously worked with Veitch on Diet Chef, a supplier of calorie-counted meals and snacks.

Machine Labs offers to help small businesses compete with giants such as Amazon by targeting potential customers with relevant email marketing rather than random spam. The app does so using AI and deep machine learning.

Machine Labs plans to raise further venture capital in the summer to double the team to 20.
