Artificial intelligence has been used to craft four new types of beer tailored to different generations, analyzing the color, aroma and taste preferences of people ranging in age from their 20s to their 50s.
Kyodo Shoji Co., which is headquartered in Saitama Prefecture and operates the Coedo craft beer business, has devised Jinsei Jozo Craft beer together with NEC Corp.
Referring to magazines that are popular with different generations, such as CanCam, Josei Seven and Shukan Post -- all published by Shogakukan Inc. -- the companies used AI to analyze photos of clothing and written content. Data from more than 4,000 issues over nearly 40 years was used to quantify the color, aroma and taste favored by each generation, according to the companies.
Based on the AI analytical data, four kinds of craft beer were produced. A red beer, for example, was developed for people in their 50s. The color was based on clothes that were popular during the so-called bubble economy period, the companies said.
The four beers were released in a limited edition of 2,000 sets on the Coedo Online Shop on Wednesday, but sold out quickly. The firms are considering additional sales, they said.
