AHPs Day: what is it and what does it celebrate?

Today’s a good day to celebrate the good work of health-care professionals

Ocrober 14 is Allied Health Professionals Day, an opportunity for AHPs to come together and showcase to others the impact they’re making on the delivery of high-quality care.

Allied Health Professions (AHPs) are a diverse group of clinicians, who deliver high-quality care to patients and clients across a wide range of care pathways, and in a range of different settings. They also play an important role in modern health and social-care services.

There are approximately 14 allied health professional roles, which include physiotherapists, prosthetists, and therapeutic radiographers, to name a few, and they all share one thing in common: they play a vital part in treating, rehabilitating, and improving the lives of their patients.

But, what is Allied Health Professionals Day, and, when is it?

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is Allied Health Professionals Day?

Allied Health Professionals Day is an annual event that allows AHPs to come together and celebrate their trade. It also offers an opportunity to showcase to others the impact that AHPs can have on the delivery of high-quality care.

The collaboration of services, organisations, trusts, and regions nationally enables:

  • The improved awareness of the role of allied health professions.
  • A chance to showcase achievements of local services and their impact on patient care and population health.
  • Integrated working with other services and organisations.

Other aims of the day include:

  • Increasing awareness of the work of AHPs.
  • Share the impact achieved by staff and students.
  • Developing relationships with stakeholders and seeking opportunities to share stories of achievements within networks.

When is Allied Health Professionals Day?

Allied Health Professionals Day falls today, on October 14.

As with previous years, the public is invited to join with other Allied Health Professionals in a day of collective action, by doing something that’s meaningful and important to you.

The first-ever AHPs Day was held in October 2018, as a way to celebrate, appreciate, and recognise the extraordinary work of the AHP workforce.

If you want to celebrate the day, you’re invited to join in by posting using the hashtags #AHPsDay and #AHPSDayScot.
