Ahmedabad: Two boys script abduction drama to avert school change

AHMEDABAD: Two boys, aged 12 years and 13 years, from Dholka town of Ahmedabad district, planned their ‘abduction’ as they did not want to go to another school in Rajasthan for two months, said police officers. The boys did not want to leave their town and friends at the school and were afraid of going to another state.

Hriday,12, and Karan, 13, are students of Class 8 and Class 9 respectively at a school run by the central government.

Recently, the school authorities told their parents to send them for various skill-based courses at the school’s one of the branches in Jaipur of Rajasthan.

The two boys were not happy with the idea and started thinking of planning something so that they could avoid going to another place, said a police officer of Dholka.

The officer said that they had gone to a temple near their house in Dholka at around 6.30pm on July 17. Around two hours, Hriday called up his father and said that he and Karan have been abducted by some unknown men and taken to Bavla town from where they managed to flee.

Hriday’s father filed a police complaint, stating that four men sprayed chilli powder in the eyes of the kids and tried to abduct them. Dholka police began an investigation where a team of local crime branch and special operations group were also deployed.

Dholka police inspector Arvind Asari said that they checked CCTV footages of Dholka and Bavla towns but did not find the abductors.

“The kids told their parents that some men came in an Omni car and abducted them. But we did not find any such car anywhere in the two towns — Dholka and Bavla,” said Asari.

Later, their parents counselled their kids and asked them again on what had happened. After several rounds of talks, the boys told their parents that they scripted their fake abduction as they did not want to go to another town even for two months.

Their parents again approached the police and narrated the entire sequence after which the investigation was closed.
