AHMEDABAD: After almost two years, the city police’s SHE team got its first vehicles for the formation of the ‘Nirbhaya’ mobile squad.
The concept was launched in 2015 in Delhi. The squad consists of two constables, one sub-inspector and one driver, and responds to coordinates received from the city police control room or any of the helpline numbers.
The squad is to fight crimes against women, especially those related to domestic violence and even help children in distress.
Apart from attending to SOS calls, the squad will also conduct surprise surveillance at marketplaces or public spaces where women complain of harassment.
“The unit was made functional from Friday. We have attended to a few calls also,” said a senior city police official.
