AHMEDABAD: Vejalpur police have registered a case of rape against one man and of impersonation against another who posed as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer and promised to get the rape accused off the hook.
In the first case, a Vejalpur woman has alleged that Jeet Trivedi, of the same area, has raped her. In the second case, Rajvirsinh Jhala, a Naroda resident, has been arrested for falsely claiming to be an IB officer and demanding bribes from the family of the accused to make the case disappear. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code's Section 170 (impersonating a public servant).
Vejalpur police inspector L D Odedara said that both the cases were registered simultaneously on Friday.
Trivedi's parents told police that their son, who is 21, had met Krina (name changed) on social media. Trivedi and Krina exchanged mobile phone numbers and began chatting.
On May 25, Trivedi was alone at home and he invited Krina over. They had consensual sex then and on two other occasions, according to his parents' statement.
Trivedi's mother stated to police that she spoke to Krina and told her not to have any relations with her son. However, his mother said, Krina made it clear that she would not break off ties. Later, Jhala mysteriously came into the picture. He visited Trivedi's residence and told his parents that Krina was about to file a police complaint. He demanded Rs 15,000 to prevent police action against Trivedi.
On Friday, Trivedi's mother learnt that Krina had indeed lodged a complaint. When the family called Jhala, he came to their residence again and demanded Rs 1.5 lakh to protect Trivedi from a police case.
But the family became suspicious because Jhala repeatedly said 'FRI' instead of FIR. The family asked him to show his identity card. Jhala was unable to do so.
The family then lodged a complaint against Jhala.
