Ahmedabad: Law student alleges custodial torture

AHMEDABAD: A law student living in the Odhav area of city on Saturday wrote to deputy commissioner of police, zone-5, alleging that he was tortured by five cops and four home guard jawans for a day when he went to Nikol police for bail of his friend who was caught in a case of curfew violation.

In his application, Mukesh Yadav, 25, a resident of Sadgurukrupa society in Odhav, said that as his friend was caught by Nikol police for violation of curfew on June 29, he went to police to undergo his bail procedure.

At that time, a Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) jawan, who was allegedly drunk, approached Yadav and told him to go away from the police station.

Yadav said that he told the LRD jawan that he is a law student and wanted bail for his friend. But this did not go well with him and he allegedly began abusing and pushing Yadav for no reasons.

This time, four home guard jawans and other cops also rushed there and they all allegedly began thrashing Yadav.

Yadav alleged that he was belted all over his body first and later he was hanged with his head towards the ground and all the cops continued to beat him entire night.
