AHMEDABAD: The city on Monday received scant rainfall even as parts of south Gujarat continued to be pounded by heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Monday mentioned that for the next three days, central and north Gujarat districts along with parts of Saurashtra are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Districts in south Gujarat are likely to get heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday.
Senior Met department officials said that a low-pressure area is likely to be formed over the Bay of Bengal on July 21. "The system is likely to travel westwards and may give good rainfall to Gujarat 4-5 days after that. We expect widespread rainfall after July 25," said a senior IMD official.
Due to the break in monsoon after a good start in the state, Gujarat is staring at about 37% deficit in rainfall if one compares long-term average till mid-July. The experts however are hopeful that the good run in August may wipe out the deficit. "The year witnessed excess pre-monsoon spell due to the cyclone. The southern districts are receiving good rainfall, and with conducive conditions, other districts would also get good rainfall," said an official.
On Monday, Kaprada received 123 mm rainfall, Dharampur 106 mm, Khergam 76 mm, Mahuva 66 mm and Ahwa 62 mm.
