Ahmedabad doctor gave himself lethal jab?

AHMEDABAD: A senior resident doctor at Asarwa Civil Hospital’s anaesthesia department, Chirag Chaudhary, allegedly attempted to commit suicide by giving himself a lethal injection, on Monday. However, cops said though he was found unconscious, nothing obtained so far during searches proves conclusively that he was attempting to kill himself.

Shahibaug police inspector K D Jadeja said: “On Monday afternoon, police were informed that a senior resident doctor was not taking calls and his room was locked from inside.” Jadeja added: “We rushed to his hostel and broke the window to enter the room. He was unconscious.” Jadeja said that the cops on the scene did not find a suicide note or traces of any medicine which could be used to kill oneself. “Once he regains consciousness, we will gather information from him,” Jadeja said.

Dr Chaudhary was earlier associated with Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Centre (IKDRC).

Some doctors at Civil Hospital said that Dr Chaudhary probably used an injection in a suicide bid. In fact, seniors at Civil Hospital have been told by some doctors that Dr Chaudhary had attempted to kill himself in his earlier job at IKDRC too.

Dr Rajnish Patel, additional medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, told TOI: “Dr Chaudhary joined the hospital earlier this year. He had no work-related issue as far as we know.” IKDRC officials said that Dr Chaudhary was with the institute till July 31, after which his residentship ended.

“During his tenure, he had not shown any signs of distress. We have asked Civil Hospital authorities to shift him to our ICU if further treatment is required,” said an IKDRC official.

Shahibaug police said Dr Chaudhary’s friends and colleagues affirm that he is a simple person who never quarreled with anyone.
