Ahmedabad: Dental student forges NEET marksheet

AHMEDABAD: A dental student has been booked for allegedly submitting a bogus National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) marksheet to secure admission to the College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre in Manipur near Ahmedabad.

The college principal, Deval Mehta, filed a complaint with the Bopal police on Friday. He told police, “The student, Diya, had got 50 marks in the exam but submitted a marksheet showing she had secured 279 marks. The incident came to light when the college authorities were unable to upload the document on the Dental Council of India (DCI) website due to the discrepancy in marks.”

Mehta told police that the college has 100 seats for Bachelor of Dental Surgery, of which, 75 were filled by the state’s centralised admission committee while the remaining 25 were to be filled by the college.

The complainant stated that Diya was admitted based on the Class 10, Class 12, and NEET marksheets that she submitted. Mehta said, “As per procedure, the documents of 100 students, who were admitted for the year 2021-22, were to be uploaded to the DCI website. The college authorities could upload the documents of only 99 students as they faced an error in uploading Diya’s documents. It was found that Diya had scored only 50 marks in the NEET exam.”

Mehta told police, “We sent an email to DCI Delhi and they replied on May 19 stating that there was no technical error. They asserted that Diya had got only 50 marks and sent a copy of the original NEET marksheet.”

The complainant stated, “Diya, who is from a scheduled caste community, had also applied and received a scholarship from the Social Welfare Department. She even deposited the freeship card in the college.”

The Bopal police have registered a case under IPC section 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document).
