AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad residents Paresh Kumar and his wife Priya had dreamt of a perfect holiday with friends when they packed their bags for Peru last month. However, little did they know that the fun trip would turn into an extended adventure, albeit an unwanted one. Soon after they landed at Lima, Peru on June 13, the duo realized that their bags had not arrived. It’s been 20 days since they returned from their holidays, but they are yet to receive their bags.
“At Miami, we learnt that our connecting flight to Peru had been shifted from one airline to the other. But when we landed at Lima in Peru, nine of the 18 bags of our group members were missing. Despite a series of follow-ups with the airlines, our bags could not be traced,” said Paresh, a businessman. Paresh travelled with his wife and seven others for a holiday in Peru for a bike trip. They had changed four flights operated by three airlines to fly from Ahmedabad to Lima via Mumbai and Miami.
“The bookings were altered at the last minute, and we were shifted to flights by another airline. Two of us had to travel via New York to reach Miami and then to Lima,” said Paresh.
Daman Thakor, another co-traveller and an Ahmedabad-resident, said, “After repeated follow-ups, five bags were handed over to us. We were promised that we would get the remaining four bags over the next two days after we had reached Lima. We had to go all the way back to Miami from Lima to collect our bags. This disrupted our holidays completely as we were on a bike trip in Peru.”
“We have repeatedly followed up the matter with the airlines but all three have been passing our queries to each other. The bags are yet to be found,” said Thakor, who has been sending emails to the airlines on behalf of the couple. TOI has gone through an online copy of the email communication.
