Ahmed Kendouci a Rangers transfer target as Gio van Bronckhorst 'eyes' bargain deal for Celtic linked star

Algerian midfielder Ahmed Kendouci is being targeted by Rangers, according to reports in the player's homeland.

22-year-old Kendouci comes highly-rated in Africa and has three goals in 10 games this season for ES Setif.

Reports earlier this week suggested Celtic were interested, although it isn't believed that has gone as far as talks between the clubs.

It was even claimed that the Hoops had contacted Rangers hero and former Algeria international Madjid Bougherra for information.

And now DZ Foot say the Premiership champions themselves have joined the Hoops in being "strongly interested" in the central midfielder.

And they add that his side ES Setif "wouldn't be very greedy" - hinting a bargain deal could be on the cards.

Kendouci could be a potential replacement for Scott Arfield after Turkish press claimed Alanyaspor and Hatayspor are interested in the 33-year-old.

The Kendouci news comes after his club manager Nabil Kouki issued a hands-off warning earlier this week.

"Last season, we missed out on the title because we sold important players in the transfer window," he said. "I very much hope and expect that it won't happen this time.

"The board of this club must make a statement that we should keep our best players and indeed, strengthen the squad.

"So I very much hope Ahmed Kendouci remains with the club despite the recent speculation."
