AHL's Chicago Wolves sign former Blackhawks winger Ben Eager

Dec. 19--Slowly but surely, the Wolves are reuniting many of the 2010 Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks.

The AHL team signed Ben Eager on Thursday and the winger joins former Hawks teammates Colin Fraser and Brent Sopel on the roster.

"I'm really excited to be playing in Chicago (with) the Wolves," Eager told the Tribune. "I'm just trying to get back in game shape and try to help the Wolves make a run at the playoffs."

The 30-year-old Eager has played 407 NHL games, including stops with the Flyers, Hawks, Thrashers, Sharks and Oilers, during which he had 43 goals, 42 assists and 875 penalty minutes.

He played seven games with the Oilers during the 2013-14 season and signed with CSKA Moscow of the KHL last July but appeared in only five games and recently had his contract bought out. Eager said he hopes to return to the NHL.

"I can still play in the NHL," he said. "You have to show some people you can play in the American League and we'll see what comes from that."

In 2010, Eager helped the Hawks win their first Cup in 49 years along with Sopel and Fraser. That summer, Eager was part of the Hawks' salary-cap purge and he was traded to the Thrashers.

"The group from 2010 all stays in touch as much as we can so meeting up with two former teammates on the Wolves is exciting," Eager said.
