Ahead of Finals, Stephen Curry defends Kevin Durant against critics

The Golden State Warriors have received a lot of criticism over the years. From blowing a 3-1 lead in the 2016 NBA Finals to their controversial addition of superstar Kevin Durant that same summer, the peanut gallery has been active. But recent criticism against Durant has been too much for Stephen Curry.

The Warriors lost Durant to a calf injury in Game 5 of their semifinals series with the Houston Rockets and they have gone 5-0 without him. The latest calls from the masses have been focused on the idea that the Warriors are clearly better without Durant and that the team is more fun to watch.

On Friday, Curry had had enough and shared his thoughts with reporters:

Nobody can be happy when people are playing well, that’s the part to me that’s the most surprising. If KD is playing well it’s all ‘oh they’re playing a different style and it’s not as fun to watch’ or it’s he’s out and we’re winning games and it’s ‘are we better or more fun’ or whatever the question is. We hear it all the time. We’re a great team, because everybody who puts on a uniform goes out and competes at a high level. There’s a little bit of sacrifice, but at the end of the day, it’s all about winning.

The Warriors will face off with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals on May 30 and they will need Durant to take on Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors.

People also question if Golden State can work Durant back into the flow when he does come back. Curry wants to let it be known that the Warriors will be able to integrate him back in perfectly.

Yeah. We have that experience and that capability to do so. At the end of the day, we’re all just one group until we’re not. I don’t think we’re going to let any noise around us, as frustrating or entertaining or whatever you want to call it us on a daily basis, break us down in terms of distracting us of what the goal is.

The Warriors are the big dynasty in the NBA and nobody has figured out a way to knock them off during this current era. As they’re on the cusp of a fourth title in five seasons, they will undoubtedly keep their focus on the task at hand. The culture that they have built over the years allows them to do so.
