Ah yes, as we thought: Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ is going to be HOT hot

Oscar Isaac as the ever enthralling Doctor Victor Frankenstein is something that many of us assumed would be hot. It feels good to be right about that.

At the event for Tudum this past weekend, fans were gifted with our first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. The film, which is a retelling of the Mary Shelley book, was originally going to star Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield. When Garfield could not be Frankenstein’s Monster, Jacob Elordi stepped in and the rest was history.

Now that we have our first look at del Toro’s vision, it feels good to know that we were all right in thinking this was going to be the hottest take on Frankenstein yet. “This has been, for me, the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life,” del Toro told the audience at Tudum. “I first read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as a kid and saw [star of the 1931 adaptation] Boris Karloff in, what became for me, an almost religious state. Monsters have become my personal belief system.”

He went on, saying “Exploring the relationship between humanity and monsters, creator and creation, father and son has consumed my stories again and again. I wanted to make this film before even I had a camera, and I’ve been actively pursuing it now for 25 years.”

Isaac was there with del Toro to show the audience the trailer and said that filming Frankenstein was “the experience of a lifetime. The passion, the love, and dedication we’ve all put into this movie is reflected in every frame.” Isaac went on to talk about Shelley’s work. “This film stands on the shoulders of every creature feature, but it is a dark and sumptuous emotional drama — a character piece sprung from the pages of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.”

Doctor Frankenstein is hot!

The dawning of the mad scientist comes to us from Shelley’s work and there is something attractive about a man losing himself to his work in the way that Frankenstein does. Now, to be fair, we don’t love that he believes he can play God. But that also comes with the territory. Mad hot genius is probably going to get a little too into himself and his abilities.

I’ll say though that Oscar Isaac playing any role has fans significantly more into it. Think about it, who knew we’d all be obsessed with a fake folk musician thanks to Isaac? The trailer doesn’t really show us Elordi’s Monster yet and so I am interested to see what the dynamic is between Isaac and Elordi. Until we know more, we know that it is confirmed that del Toro’s Frankenstein is hot and that’s enough for me until November.
