Aguero out, Torres in - Man City predicted line up vs Porto in Champions League

The easy choice would be to start Sergio Aguero against Porto in Manchester City's opening Champions League fixture of the season.

Aguero came through an hour of the win over Arsenal unscathed, and is City's only natural striker at senior level with Gabriel Jesus injured.

But that reason is enough to make Pep Guardiola think twice about including Aguero in the starting line up for the visit of Porto. After three months out, and plenty of fixtures ahead, the last thing City will want to do is rush Aguero back and force another injury.

So maybe the wiser option is to manage Aguero's return and keep him as an option from the bench, if required, on Wednesday. Raheem Sterling is in good form and can move into the centre, while Ferran Torres can take that spot on the wing after being an unused substitute against Arsenal.

In midfield, Guardiola will weigh up the need to keep things fresh with the desire to keep some sort of rhythm. Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho can come in for Phil Foden and Rodri, with Gundogan regularly the first name on the teamsheet in Europe. Bernardo Silva can get the nod over Foden for his knowledge of the Portuguese game against Primeira Liga opponents.

Guardiola has more decisions to make in defence, with a more recognisable back four surely likely after the experimental formation against Arsenal.

Joao Cancelo can revert to left-back, with Kyle Walker on the right and Ruben Dias in the centre. There is possibly a case for John Stones to come into defence to rest the legs of Nathan Ake, but after his own injury lay-off, it might be wiser to bring him off the bench.

Predicted Man City XI vs Porto: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Ake, Cancelo; Fernandinho, Gundogan, Bernardo; Mahrez, Torres, Sterling.
