Agrochemical company Eden jumps nearly 9% on patent news and hopes of EU approval

Aim=listed agrochemical company Eden Research has jumped nearly 9% after a positive update and hopes of forthcoming regulatory approval of a key product.

The company's shares have climbed 0.75p to 9.25p after it said it had won a patent from the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation relating to a formula to control plant funghi and bacteria. Eden managing director Clive Newitt said:

A large amount of the food and other crops such as cut flowers produced in Africa are exported to the European supermarkets which means that it is an important market for Eden in which to establish its presence.

Traders also heard talk that a key European approval for Eden's products is imminent.

An EU vote in the middle of May will consider approving the active ingredients used in the company's products - which use environmentally friendly agrichemicals to kill bugs - and the talk is that a positive result is expected.
