Mr Suriya, aged 71 years, appeared exhausted and collapsed unconscious, his secretary Sorawut Nuangjamnong said. He was rushed to a hospital, where medical staff revived him in a few minutes.
Mr Sorawut said the minister was treated in an intensive care unit. After his vital signs returned to normal, Mr Suriya asked to be discharged from the hospital and continued his trip.
Mr Suriya was on an inspection tour to Udon Thani, following up on implementation of water management policy and preparations for the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026.
Mr Sorawut said Mr Suriya had worked hard since taking on the portfolio two months ago, and had suffered a cold early last week.
On Monday, Mr Suriya was to attend the ordination of Rachen Silaparaya, who had complained about Mr Suriya’s decision to transfer him out of his position as director-general of the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation.
