Agony continues for families of missing men in Glenrothes as police reveal news on body find

Remains found on a Fife industrial estate are not those of a man missing from the area, detectives have confirmed.

The family of Allan Bryant who vanished seven years ago were told of the grim discovery at Whitehill Road, Glenrothes, last week.

They said they were 'numb and struggling' as they waited on the post mortem results.

Relatives of Kenneth Jones - who disappeared from the town in 1998 - were also informed but cops have now revealed the body of the person found is not linked to any “local long-term missing people.”

Allan Bryant was last seen on CCTV shortly after 2am on November 3rd, 2013 (PA)

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Houliston, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “The families of long-term missing people in the local area have been informed that the remains are not those of their loved-ones and officers continue to support them at this difficult time.

“This is a complex and highly intricate investigation and we're working to find out who this is and how they came to be there.”

Allan Bryant was last seen leaving the Styx nightclub in Glenrothes in November 2013.

Despite desperate searches and appeals no trace has ever been discovered of the then 23-year-old.

In a series of heartbreaking social media posts from dad Allan Snr last week said he hoped the body was his son's so that he could finally have closure to his ongoing torment.

He also said was thinking of the loved ones of other missing people including the family of Kenneth.

Aged 18 at the time, Kenneth left home on the early morning of November 3, 1998, never to be seen again.

Allan Snr tonight vowed to continue seeking answers over his son's disappearance.

He said: "The fight for my missing son Allan will continue we are devastated that remains found on Sunday the 27 of September are not our son Allan's.

"My family will continue to fight for justice for our son no matter what. I want to thank the Major investigation team for their continued support over the last 8 days for keeping my family updated.

"My family need to come to term's with the news we also want to thank you all so much for your continued support through this horrendous week. Love from Myself and Marie."

Cops are now working to identify the remains found in Whitehill Road and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

DCI Houliston added: “The death remains unexplained but if anyone has any information that may help our enquiries then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2692 of Sunday, 27 September, 2020.”
