Agnes the cat survived a 40ft fall from a building - and is now looking for a new home

It’s a good job that cats have nine lives.

Because Agnes the OAP tabby and white moggy has most certainly used up one of them.

Agnes – who is believed to be around 14 years old – was rescued from Hotwells last month where he had fallen 40ft from the roof of a building.

Amazingly Agnes, who has arthritis, fell 20ft from the roof on to a ledge and then jumped the final 20ft to the ground.

Holly Hedge fundraiser Hannah Goodwin-Charman said: “She was incredibly, incredibly lucky.

“She was on the roof of this building 40ft up and managed to land on the ledge, which was only about 18 inches wide, before jumping down to the ground.”

A member of the public, concerned about Agnes rang Holly Hedge for help.

It is believed that Agnes had been on the roof of the building, which was in a gated courtyard, for a couple of days before risking making her way to terra firma.

“We received the call and were on site within 20 minutes,” said Hannah.

“She was very happy to see us.

"She's an old girl and shouldn't have been stuck outside wandering like that."

As well as being arthritic, Agnes also has poor eyesight – making it even more miraculous that she managed to get down safely from the rooftop.

Once rescued, Holly Hedge staff checked her over before taking her back to the sanctuary at Barrow Gurney.

“Amazingly she wasn’t injured in any way,” said Hannah.

“But she was very dehydrated and in need of some TLC.

“As soon as we had finished checking her over, she crawled up onto our cattery manager Lucinda's lap, and gave her the biggest cuddle

Agnes was also covered in fleas and ticks and her fur had become matted.

“We think she may have been straying for some time and was just out there surviving,” said Hannah.

Sadly Agnes is not microchipped and efforts to find her owner have so far proved fruitless.

“She is such a sweet cat,” said Hannah, “everyone here loves her.

“She just wants a cuddle and some TLC and we’d love to be able to find her a special home where she can enjoy her golden years.”

Agnes would prefer to be the only cat in the household and would also prefer not to live with a dog, although older children would be ok.
