A wild bear had to be shot down after airport staff saw it repeatedly breaking into the site and deemed it a threat to passengers' safety.
Armed wildlife rangers were deployed at Yelizovo airport, in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, after the beast was spotted roaming around.
CCTV footage taken from inside the airport shows the brown bear breaking through a metal fence during the night.
It had previously been caught on camera strolling through a security checkpoint where a plane to Moscow was checking in.
Officials decided to take down the bear as a precaution to keep airport staff and tourists away from potential danger.
A spokesman for the regional wildlife agency in Kamchatka said: "The bear managed to get into the airport territory a few times.
"Experts traced the beast and tried to scare him back into the forest, but he kept returning.
"The bear behaved aggressively and it was decided to shot him dead."
According to the Siberian Times, the airport was like a magnet to the bear that “loved planes”.
Other reports say the beast may have found a secret supply of throwaway food in the airport, which operates regular flights to the Russian capital Moscow.
Thousands of bears roam free on the volcano-and-glacier Kamchatka peninsula.
Two people have been killed by brown bears in two separate incidents on the peninsula this summer alone.
In one of the attacks a fisherman was killed.
In the other a metal factory worker lost their life to one of the mammals while walking in the woods.
It is unusual that the bears venture into the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky which has a population of 180,000.
