'Aggressive' man attacks two gardai on Dublin street, leaving one in hospital

A female garda was taken to hospital yesterday after she and a colleague attempted to deal with a man who was allegedly urinating on a city centre street.

The horrific attack took place on Mercier Street at around 5pm.

The female garda is understood to have been kicked in the head after she fell to the ground.

She was taken to hospital for treatment but was released earlier today.

Her colleague, a male officer, also received minor injuries.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live a man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He said: "Gardaí arrested a man (30s) following a public order incident yesterday, 17 th March 2021.

"The incident occurred neared Mercer St in Dublin City Centre at approximately 5pm.

"The man became aggressive towards Gardaí during the incident and two Gardaí received injuries. One of whom was taken to hospital, and released earlier today.

"The man was conveyed to Pearse Street Station and detained. He has since been released and will now appear before the Courts at a later date."
