Aggressive Irvine man who caused partner to sob with threats told to rethink behaviour

An Irvine man who made threats which caused his partner to sob has been told to rethink his conduct towards women.

Robert Barr, 20, was fined £300 when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week after he admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on July 3 this year.

Barr, of Fintry Terrace, carried out the offence at an address in Kilwinning.

The prosecutor told the court: “The complainer and the accused were in a relationship for around two years at the time of the offence.

“On July 3 the complainer and the accused were in the property and the accused became argumentative which made the complainer uncomfortable, she asked him to leave.

“He became more aggressive and started to shout and swear.”

The court heard that witnesses could hear the accused. The accused was heard threatening to trash the house and that he would ‘do someone in’.

The prosecutor added: “The complainer phoned her grandmother who heard the accused shouting and swearing. The complainer was sobbing and seemed scared and because of this the grandmother called the police.

“Police attended and Barr was subsequently arrested.”

Barr’s defence agent told the court that the relationship was over.

Sheriff Jamieson said: “Your behaviour is very unpleasant and you will have to have a think about how you conduct yourself in relationships with women going forward.”

Barr was fined £300.
