'Aggressive FirstBus driver threatened to stop passengers getting off bus'

A passenger has claimed an "aggressive" driver threatened to stop her getting off the bus if she didn't stop talking.

Dawn Driscoll boarded the 92 First Bus service earlier today (July 3) to South Bristol Community Hospital where she works.

However the bus drove past the hospital stop, which surprised the 57-year-old Knowle woman.

Ms Driscoll claims the driver then start acting "aggressively" after she began asking why the vehicle hadn't stopped.

"On this occasion I expected the bus to stop but it didn't," she said.

"Myself and another passenger asked the driver why she had not stopped and she said it was because we had stood and not pressed the bell.

"I proceeded to ask her why she had not stopped to see if any passengers wanted to go on the bus.

"She told me 'I'm not taking any shtick from you'. I was a little taken aback by her aggressive attitude."

As the bus continued on its journey, Ms Driscoll and her fellow passenger tried to speak with the bus driver.

"I was told by her that she would not let me off the bus until I stopped talking to her," she said.

"It was very aggressive and threatening behaviour - it's upsetting to be treated like that."

She added that she had been left "intimidated" by the experienced.

"I did feel intimidated and felt like my hands were tied as I wasn't allowed to speak."

Ian Coyle, operations director for Bristol at First West of England, said: “This incident has been brought to our attention and we are currently investigating the matter.

"If appropriate, it will be taken forward under our disciplinary procedure.

"We expect the highest standards of behaviour from all our staff and very much regret anything otherwise, as the safety and well-being of our passengers is our number one priority.”
