Aggressive dogs in locality? Call helpline

PANCHKULA: The municipal corporation (MC) has launched a special number for residents to complain about aggressive stray dogs in their locality. The civic body has also set a target to sterilise 500 stray dogs in a month.

Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal said anyone who finds an aggressive dog in their neighbourhood or area can give a call on the number, "9876252622", after which an MC team would take the dog to the rehabilitation centre in Sukhdarshanpur for sterilisation and proper training.

Goyal said, "Dog bite cases from aggressive stray dogs is cause of concern and people must call the given number to file their complaint."

Chief sanitation inspector Avinash Singla said as per the survey, around 5,000 stray dogs are present in the MC area. Singla added that from March 1 to May 15, 765 stray dogs were sterilised by "Bezuban" NGO. Of these, 150 were sterilised from April 15 to May 15. "I have given the target of sterilising 500 stray dogs in a month to the NGO so that their population dogs can be controlled at the earliest," he said.

The mayor also requested pet owners to register their dogs with the MC, failing which a special drive would be started and those who have not registered their pet dogs will be fined. A case will be registered if the same pet owner is found not to have registered their dog again.
