Aggressive Coatbridge man spat blood on cop while trying to resist arrest

An aggressive Gartsherrie man resisted arrest and spat blood on a male cop, a court heard last week.

David Smith turned on police officers when they attended an incident at his Gilmour Place home on January 19.

Smith “struggled violently” with two male constables to “avoid handcuffs being applied”.

The thoughtless 29-year-old then spat blood on one of the officers before he was later placed under arrest and taken to Coatbridge police station.

After entering a guilty plea, Smith was due to face the music at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

However, upon hearing that background reports on Smith were unavailable, Sheriff Morag Shankland adjourned matters until August 28 for “the reports previously called for and a restriction of liberty assessment”.
