Aggreko confirms Tokyo Olympics contract worth around $315 million

Aggreko has agreed and signed the necessary contract revisions with The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, reflecting both scope changes and the impact of the delay of the Games into this year.

The total revenue value to the Glasgow-headquartered temporary power provider is now expected to be around $315m.

The group stated that preparation work for the Games "continues to progress well" and bosses remain confident of delivering to the revised schedule.

At the end of 2018, Aggreko's Japanese subsidiary secured the contract - then reported to be worth around $200m - to provide electricity to power 43 competition venues, the Athletes Village and the broadcast centre.

Guidance for group profit before tax for 2021 of £170m to 190m assumes the Games proceed as planned at this increased overall contract value.

In November, a trading update for period from 1 January to 30 September 2020 noted that the pandemic and low oil prices meant that underlying revenue for the nine months was down 12%, versus 4% in the first half.

Excluding revenue earned from the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the Tokyo Olympics in both 2019 and 2020, underlying revenue declined 10%, compared with 7% at the half year.
