AgForce urges quick work on drought reform

Queensland farm lobby group Ian Burnett has urged governments to move quickly to implement the National Drought Program Reform.

Federal, state and territory ministers signed the agreement at the Standing Council on Primary Industries meeting in Sydney last week.

The program includes farm household support payments, taxation measures and better national co-ordination of farm business training and social support services.

AgForce general president Ian Burnett says the fine details of the plan must be hashed out quickly as the situation in dry areas of Queensland is deteriorating.

"The biggest problem we see is in Queensland right now one third of the state is in drought and it looks like it's going to increase, so we really need this resolved fairly quickly," he said.
