Manchester United qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League as they overcame Unai Emery's Villarreal.
A cute volley from Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring before Jadon Sancho rifled home his first Reds goal in off the underside of the bar to seal a vital 2-0 win in Spain.
A mixture of poor form and failure to fit into the system played into his Old Trafford drought since his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund, but he shattered the doubts in a scintillating display in what was a much-needed win and defensive display from Michael Carrick's side, on his first game in the dugout with Sancho one of the standouts.
The win sees the Reds move into the knockouts with a game to spare, beating Tuesday's opponents who had started the night level on points with United in Group F.
But for the 21-year-old, the form that earned him the £73m move from Dortmund was on display with Sancho tormenting the Villarreal full-backs before getting his deserved goal in the dying embers as he and Ronaldo inflicted misery.
Two England internationals, also both highly sought after, in Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice were quick to praise their Three Lions teammate, leading to fans calling for them to make the move to Manchester.
Rice, who is a primary target for the club next summer, and Bellingham were quick to laud the attacker after breaking his duck which lead to fans suspecting and hoping the winger can play his part in prising the duo away from their respective clubs.
The former Birmingham City playmaker and Sancho both enjoyed a German Cup-winning season together before he departed for Old Trafford after he followed a similar path to the United man in making the Bundesliga switch.
His form for Marco Rose's side has earned him a place in the England squad but it was his breakthrough season under Lucien Favre then Edin Terzic that saw him come to the fore domestically and globally at the tender age of just 18.
Rice, however, remains a target of the Reds and has been earmarked as their principal midfield target whereas Bellingham's future remains to be seen with the list of clubs totting up as the performances continue.
As for Sancho, his first United goal could see his slow start kicked into gear.
