Agent puts historic former fire service HQ in Derby back on the market

A commercial property agent has “unexpectedly” brought back to market the historic former headquarters of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Just over a year ago, Salloway Property Consultants and Bishop Property Consultants started marketing the Old Hall, in Littleover, which was the home of the fire and rescue service for 45 years until it moved to be alongside Derbyshire Police at Butterley Hall in Ripley.

The property was later taken off the market, suggesting that a buyer had been found for the nearly five-acre site in Burton Road, which includes a Victorian mansion.

However, this week Salloway has revealed that the Old Hall is “unexpectedly” back on the market and expressions of interest are now once again being invited.

The Victorian mansion was built in 1891 (Salloway)

As well as the Victorian mansion, the site features more modern buildings and gatehouse in attractive, landscaped grounds.

The 1891 house was erected to the design of Alexander MacPherson for businessman Edward MacInnes.

Prior to that there was a home on the site which dated back to the late Elizabethan era.

Speaking back in September, Stephen Salloway, managing director of Salloway Property Consultants, said: “This is a very rare opportunity and the vendors are happy to discuss propositions on a conditional or unconditional basis or even a joint venture.

“Those interested would almost certainly have to retain the beautiful Old Hall and lodge which are noted in Derby’s historic buildings list but are not formally listed.”
