Agent provides update on Lucas Torreira's Arsenal future

The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has revealed that his client is not happy with his role at the Emirates Stadium this season.

The midfielder has mostly been used as a substitute during the 2019/20 campaign, although he has been a regular pick in the Europa League, starting three of the four games so far.

Torreira has however been named in the starting 11 for Arsenal's last two Premier League games, starting in the middle of the park for the matches against Wolves and Leicester, where the Gunners picked up one point from the 180 minutes.

Before securing a move to the Emirates in summer 2018, Torreira was in negotiations with Italian side Napoli, and his agent Raffaele Bentancur has revealed just how close the Uruguayan came to moving to Napoli.

"Torreira is fine, now he is with the national team and is happy. It is true, Napoli wanted it, but there was economic distance with the Arsenal offer," he told Radio Marte.

"Ancelotti personally tried to take him to Naples and if the negotiation with Arsenal had been missed, he would have come to Naples, I had promised. Arsenal, however, was also a choice for football more akin to him, Torreira along with Arsenal chose English football."

Arsene Wenger: Thierry Henry can bounce back

Reports this week suggest that Torreira is seeking a January move away from the Emirates Stadium, and Bentancur has given an update on his client's future.

"In football anything can happen," he said.

"Torreira is doing well at Arsenal, although the change of role does not make him happy, but it must be said that this year the whole team is not going well. It was difficult to take Torreira at the time, now I don't know how things are, but I think Arsenal wants to keep it. Play little? In the new role he is not at ease, but we respect the coach's decisions, then we'll see what happens.

"Torreira was upset when the passage to Naples jumped. Why? Because he is Uruguayan. To tell you, he wants to end his career at Boca and Napoli is an environment very similar to that of Boca."
