'Agent Lamela' - These Tottenham fans are excited by Paulo Dybala's latest social media post

For Tottenham fans, Paulo Dybala was the one that got away in the summer.

Tottenham made an audacious bid for the Argentinian striker in the summer transfer window, spending weeks trying to hammer out negotiations over a £64million deal to sign the frontman.

But issues with a third party ownership of his image rights halted any chance of Spurs nabbing the 25-year-old.

There is a feeling that Tottenham will try again in the January transfer window, although comments made by Dybala in the Italian media may change that.

Dybala has revealed that he did not enjoy being linked with teams he had no intention of joining in an open interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Via Football Italia he said: "It wasn’t an easy summer. Hearing your name linked to every team and every place, where you don’t want to go, isn’t a nice thing.

"But this is football, even if before the transfer window opened I said: ‘I want to stay here.’

"I think it was more important to let the pitch do the talking, even if until the last day no-one knew what would happen.

"I wanted to stay, I wanted to play here and continue my career at Juve. I think I can still give a lot and I showed a glimpse of that against Inter."

There are no guarantees that he meant Tottenham as one of the places he didn't want to go, as he was linked with a host of other clubs, including Manchester United and Inter Milan too.

And those comments have not stopped Spurs fans talking about his latest post on his Instagram Story.

Dybala is away on international duty with Argentina, alongside Tottenham star Erik Lamela.

And Dybala posted a photo of the pair of them, with Watford's Roberto Pereyra, in what looks like a hotel room ahead of their friendly with Germany on Wednesday night.

And the Spurs fans are naturally excited.

Will Dybala be on the move to N17 in January?
