Agent confirms Arsenal interest in Ivory Coast star, but Spurs, Liverpool and Everton also keen

At one point, before the transfer window opened, Jean Philippe Gbamin was rumoured to be one of Unai Emery's top targets.

Everything went quiet on that front as the transfer window opened.

But Arsenal's reported interest has been ramped up again - by the player's agent.

Gbamin is a 23-year-old defender/midfielder who currently plays in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05.

Born in San Pedro, Ivory Coast, his had spells in France at Aire-sur-la-Lys and US Saint-Quentin Blessy before joining RC Lens as a youth player in 2007, breaking into the senior squad in the 2012/2013 Ligue 2 campaign.

Gbamin began to establish himself as a regular in the Lens team the following season and played a huge role in them gaining promotion to the top flight of French football having made 30 appearances.

Despite the agony of relegation in the 2014/15 campaign, the defender stayed at the Stade Bollaert-Deleis stadium for another year before making the move to Mainz in the summer of 2016.

Gbamin has made almost 100 appearances for the German side in three seasons, missing just three games as Mainz finished 12th last season.

When asked if he would go on holiday to England, Gbamin responded: "No, maybe later to work."

And his agent Bernard Collignon has confirmed there has been contact from Arsenal, but also from other Premier League clubs over a potential £40million transfer this summer.

Speaking to Fussball Transfers , Collignon said: "I had meetings with Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and many other clubs. He is in the shortlist. However, not as a top candidate, because his exact position is unclear.

"In my opinion he is a player worth 60 million euros. It's time for him to play as a centre-back.

"There he would be a top player in all four major leagues and would make a great career."
