Agent appointed to sell pair of popular village eateries near Derby

Two popular eateries in a prosperous village near Derby have been put up for sale.

David Brown Commercial has been appointed to market Godfrey’s cafe bistro and Shakes, Cakes and Bakes, both in Town Street, Duffield.

Godfrey’s was founded in 1999 and serves barista-made coffee, freshly prepared breakfasts and lunch dishes.

For the past five years it has been run by Christopher Winnitt, who is also the co-owner of Shakes, Cakes and Bakes, which serves a range of coffee, milkshakes and baked goods.

Speaking about the sale of Godfrey’s, which has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor, Mr Winnitt said: “Godfrey’s is truly special and much more than a cafe.

“I have enjoyed the past five years in the village immensely and I would like to hand over the business to an operator who is going to maintain the character of the place, while ensuring the cafe realises it’s full potential.”

Shakes, Cakes and Bakes previously traded under the name Movie Shakes, a nod to the shop’s previous use as a video shop.

Mr Winnitt said: “Shakes, Cakes and Bakes has strengthened the loyal customer base that Movie Shakes built up over the years.

“Due to a new opportunity the time has come to hand over the reins to a new entrepreneur who can see the potential in the business and can bring the cafe to its next chapter of success.”

Michael Green, surveyor at David Brown Commercial, said: “This property has always traded very well as a cafe and we are delighted to bring this opportunity to the market place.

“Duffield has undergone somewhat of a food and beverage renaissance over the past couple of years with a number of highly successful cafe, bar and public house premises attracting more and more people to the area.

“Godfrey’s is well known within Duffield and is extremely popular with local residents, visitors and cyclists who enjoy nothing more than sitting outside watching the world go by over coffee and breakfast.

“Its central position and outdoor seating make it a unique space in the village. Anyone familiar with Duffield has a soft spot for Godfrey’s as it’s been part of the local scene for two decades.”
