The body of an agency worker was found in a loading bay at the Jaguar Land Rover site in Halewood this morning.
Horrified colleagues discovered the man's body and alerted emergency services.
Staff described Merseyside Police officers and ambulances quickly arriving on the scene.
The man is understood to have worked for DHL, which has a contract with Jaguar to provide services at the site.
A spokeswoman for Jaguar said: "We can confirm there was a serious incident at our Halewood site this morning involving the death of an agency colleague.
"The incident is now being investigated by Merseyside Police.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of our colleague at this time.
"We will be working closely with DHL to ensure we provide full support to employees affected by the incident."
A spokeswoman for DHL said: "We can confirm that Merseyside Police responded to an incident at our Halewood operation this morning, following the death of a colleague.
"We offer our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and are cooperating fully with the police in their investigation.
"While this is underway we are unable to comment further, other than to confirm that the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues is paramount to the company."
Merseyside Police confirmed officers attended at the Jaguar plant in Halewood on the morning of Saturday, 26 October 2019 following the discovery of a man's body.
Police and paramedics attended shortly after 6am and recovered the body of a man thought to be his 50s.
The man's next of kin have been informed and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A file is being prepared for the Coroner.
