Agencies to ensure 'maximum' security

All efforts must be undertaken to provide maximum security for His Majesty the King's coronation ceremonies, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Monday.

According to Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich, Gen Prawit said all agencies must cooperate fully to ensure "maximum security and dignity" during the event, at a meeting with representatives of Thailand's armed forces, national police chief, and permanent secretary of defence.

Gen Prawit -- who is also Defence Minister and chairman of the committee responsible for security and traffic management for the ceremony -- urged officials to respect the King's wish to ensure minimal disruption to the public during the ceremonies.

Lt Gen Kongcheep said coordination centres will be formed to streamline coronation-related tasks.

The coronation will take place between May 4-6.

As part of the ceremonies, water from 180 sacred sites across the country will be collected to be used in the event.

Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda said provincial authorities have given details about the water sources to the Interior Ministry. Landscape work will be carried out at these areas before the water is collected on April 6, he said.
