Age of Kill review – will disappoint the most undiscerning viewer

Age of Kill
Schlocker: Age of Kill.

“These Asian geezers from across the water – proper naughty they are!” And we’re back. From the bargain-basement-Bond titles with which it opens to the “2-for-a-fiver” DVD shelf to which it is heading, this geezer-tastic schlocker “from the makers of Vendetta” will disappoint even the most undiscerning viewer. Phil Davis is the gruff special-ops commander who leads Martin Kemp’s sniper through an opening shoot-to-kill mishap. Next thing, Kemp finds himself in a naff remake of Nick of Time (the trailer prefers “24 meets Taken”) – ordered to execute six people in six hours by an anonymous caller whose identity is so clear it took me some time to realise I wasn’t meant to know it. Shootings, bombings and toilet stranglings ensue, while people pretending to be policemen tackle dialogue so ear-scraping it could kill an elephant at 60 paces. Stalwart cameos are rife, from which only Nick Moran and Dexter Fletcher emerge with dignity. On the plus side, the far right are portrayed as a mindless, manipulable mob, which means that this particular road to hell is at least paved with some good intentions.
