Age-defying secrets of the Friends cast as stars show off youthful faces at reunion

It’s been 17 years since we last saw Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer on screen together.

The much-loved stars bid farewell to one of the biggest sitcoms in TV history back in 2004, but when they recently reunited for the upcoming one-off Friends TV special, fans were stunned to see they had barely aged over the last two decades.

What are the secrets to their eternal youth?

We take a look at all the tips, tricks and admission to cosmetic work the six stars have admitted to over the last two decades...

Jennifer Aniston

The 52-year-old actress has been one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood since she played Rachel Green in the hit U.S. show, and even had a haircut named after her character in the late 90s.

While some have speculated she’s gone under the knife to keep the wrinkles at bay, Jennifer has never admitted to having fillers or Botox, but did once suggest she had dabbled with some cosmetic treatments.

“I’m not saying that I haven’t tried it. All that cosmetic stuff looks ridiculous on me,” she teased.

Now, she’s in her 50s, Jennifer prefers non-invasive procedures, including micro-current facials which use electrically-charged pads to stimulate muscles, and drinks litres of water to keep her skin looking fresh and plump.

“Because this is the only body we’re given, we need to be really good and mindful of what we eat and how we take care of our skin — getting a good night’s sleep is extremely important, as is hydrating with water, water, water. It’s so important to get that extra glow,” she told Vogue in 2016.

Cryo sticks are also a part of her daily skincare routine, and the devices, made from stainless steel, help to reduce any swelling or puffiness, and improve circulation, as well as tightening pores.

The stunning star also avoids booze as it dries out her skin, and she's a firm believer in you are what you eat.

The Morning Show star is also an avid sunscreen user, and slathers Aveeno's SPF50 on her face daily.

Courteney Cox

The 56-year-old previously opened up on her approach to ageing, and confessed she’d felt under pressure to go under the knife to keep her youthful looks.

The actress, who played neurotic Monica Geller, said she had multiple tweakments, and found herself looking unrecognisable.

"Well, what would end up happening is that you go to a doctor who would say, 'You look great, but what would help is a little injection here or filler there,'" she told New Beauty in 2017.

"You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, 'Oh s**t, this doesn’t look right.'

“And it’s worse in pictures than in real life. I have one friend who was like, 'Whoa, no more!' I thought, I haven’t done anything in six months. I didn’t realise,” Courteney shared.

She’s now had all her Botox and filler dissolved, and now feels as “natural as can be”.

“I feel better. I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do.”

Now, like her on and off-screen BFF Jennifer, she’s a big fan of non-invasive treatments to help maintain her glowing complexion.

“I’m a big laser believer. I really think they are the wave of the future.

“I tried Ultherapy, which produces collagen, and I’m about to do Fraxel, which will get rid of brown spots on my chest and face,” Courteney added.

Lisa Kudrow

At 57, Lisa is the oldest of the Friends cast, but that hasn’t stopped her from embracing ageing and having a healthy relationship with her body.

The actress, who played Phoebe Buffay, previously revealed she would purposefully lose weight during her time on the show after comparing herself to her petite co-stars.

“You see yourself on TV, and it’s that, ‘Oh my god, I’m just a mountain of a girl’. And I’m already bigger than Courteney and Jennifer. (I was) taller, bigger. My bones feel bigger, I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them,” the 5’ 8” beauty complained.

Now, she’s developed a more positive mindset when it comes to her figure.

“I just go, ‘Alright, so what? You’re older, that’s a good thing, why is that a bad thing?’”

Lisa also confessed she’s afraid to try Botox and fillers, and would rather grow old gracefully than go under the knife.

“I’m too afraid to do Botox or filler or plastic surgery. “It doesn’t mean I won’t ever do it, but it all scares me a little too much. I think everyone’s beautiful when they’re smiling. So I try to be happy. Drink in the good stuff,” the funnywoman quipped.

However, she did get a nose job when she was 16, and claimed she looked “hideous” before the transformation.

“I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous. I did it the summer before going to a new high school so there were plenty of people who wouldn’t know how hideous I looked before. That was a good, good, good change,"” Lisa said in 2013.

Matt LeBlanc

The leading men of the hit show have avoided any speculation about their appearance, and have been able to age gracefully without the need to shoot down rumours of Botox or cosmetic surgery.

Matt, 53, ditched the jet black hair he sported on the show as Joey Tribbiani and embraced his natural grey hair, earning him the honour of becoming a silver fox.

However, he was criticised for putting on weight after Friends came to end in 2004, and was pictured relaxing beside a pool alongside the cruel headline ‘Beached Male’.

“That stung a little. Another said ‘Fat LeBlanc’. That was clever, I thought. It’s part of the ups and downs of Hollywood. So it doesn’t really matter,” he quipped.

David Schwimmer

David, who played Ross Geller, has also largely escaped the speculation and rumours about his appearance, and kept a low profile following the end of the show, with her personal life being out of the spotlight.

He recently revealed that he’s been cooking vegetarian meals after his nine-year-old daughter Cleo, who he shares with ex Zoë Buckman, has shunned meat in favour of plant-based alternatives.

Matthew Perry

Meanwhile, Matthew has endured a public battle with drug addiction, which began during his time on the show.

The funnyman, who played the lovable Chandler Bing, first checked himself into rehab in 1997, after becoming hooked on painkillers following a jet-ski accident.

He was then seeking treatment again in 2001, for Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol addictions.

His drug problems were well documented during his time on the show, as his character’s weight would fluctuate wildly onscreen.

Matthew then issued a statement in 2011, revealing that he would be taking time out of the spotlight to focus on his sobriety.

In an interview in 2016, he confessed he had no recollection of filming Friends “somewhere between seasons three and six”, and his addiction was so severe he developed pancreatitis and his weight plummeted to 10 stone.

After emergency surgery on his bowel in 2018, he’s on the road to recovery and focused on his sobriety.
