Good afternoon.

Tropical Cyclone Narelle has made landfall in far north Queensland as a “high-end” category 4 system before losing intensity as it crossed the Cape York peninsula.

The still-severe category 3 storm posed a severe threat to several remote communities, tearing off roofs and felling trees near the small town of Coen.

Narelle made landfall with sustained winds of 195km/h – just 5km/h short of the category 5 threshold. It is expected to make a second landfall over the Northern Territory on Saturday evening. Follow its path on this tracking map.
