After wild slam submission against Mike Kimbel, John Douma returns at Bellator 232

After he pulled off a wild upset submission in his promotional debut, John Douma will be getting a second shot in Bellator.

Douma (4-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will look to continue his momentum when he takes on Jornel Lugo (2-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) on the preliminary card at Bellator 232.

A Bellator official on Friday told MMA Junkie of the booking.

Bellator 232 takes place Oct. 26 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Douma’s Bellator debut didn’t go the way the oddsmakers thought it would.

A relative unknown as he entered his first Bellator fight, Douma faced off with highly touted up-and-comer Mike Kimbel at Bellator 215 in February. When Douma locked in a triangle choke in the first round, Kimbel elevated and slammed. However, Douma’s legs were locked and he pulled off the upset submission.

As a result of the slam, Douma suffered a back injury that took him out of action. But now he is ready to return against fellow prospect Lugo.

A member of American Top Team, Lugo has won both of his professional outings inside the distance. After he won his pro debut by submission against Joshua Oxendine at CES 56 in May, Lugo showed off his striking arsenal when he defeated Harris Bonfiglio at CES 58 in September.
