JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After quick work of Alex Oliveira at UFC 261, Randy Brown is ready to make a run at welterweight.
Brown (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) dropped and choked out Oliveira with a one-armed rear-naked choke in Round 1 of the featured prelim on Saturday at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Oliveira (22-10-1 MMA, 11-8 UFC) found some success with his leg kicks early, but Brown was able to land a blistering right hand that spelled the beginning of the end for the Brazilian.
“His range was interesting,” Brown told reporters at the UFC 261 post-fight news conference. “I studied his fights and noticed he bounces around a lot, and he tries to stay long. With him, because I guess I’m taller, he pressed me and was able to crowd me instantly. He was in my punch range really fast so that threw me off guard a little bit, but then I was able to just re-adjust and hit the big shots that I needed to hit.”
Having won three of his past four all by way of finish, Brown thinks it’s time he got the credit he deserves.
“I’m here, and I’m coming,” Brown said. “I’ve had some stumbles along the way, but I’m still figuring it out and tonight I showed that.”
He continued, “I want them to know that I’m here, and I want them to take me seriously as a future contender.”
