After taking a shot at Georgia, Dan Mullen about to lose top recruit to transfer portal

After Florida head coach Dan Mullen recently took a shot at Georgia, specifically how the transfer of highly-ranked quarterback Justin Fields came about, the Gator coach may just have to eat his words.

Fields was the most high profile player to enter the college football transfer portal following the 2018 regular season. His transfer to Ohio State was well documented and Mullen’s enjoyed trolling Kirby Smart and Georgia about losing the nation’s top quarterback recruit.

“I’d think we did a poor job recruiting if guys were coming in and then immediately walking out the door because it was something different than what they thought it would be and we lied to them during recruiting, or we sold them on a dream that wasn’t true,” Mullen said.

So now comes Florida’s top-rated 2019 signee, cornerback Chris Steele. The former four-star recruit  has entered his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal, giving schools the all-clear to contact him about a potential move. The California native enrolled early and spent a good deal of spring practice working with the Gator starters.

So how do lose you lose your top recruit, the No. 42 overall player in the country and the No. 5 cornerback in the nation, even before fall practice, Coach Mullen?

According to Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun, Steele was unhappy at Florida because of some incidents regarding housing in the dormitories.

“The decision stems from a request Steele made to the staff during his first month on campus, the source said. He asked to be moved to a different dorm because he was uncomfortable rooming with quarterback Jalon Jones, his classmate.

The staff did not plan to move Steele until the summer, which upset Steele and his parents, according to the source.”

Next, on April 6th, two females accused Jones, Steele’s roommate, of sexual assault in the players’ dorm. This prompted Steele to a seek transfer.

Talk about ‘immediately walking out the door.’
