After start of free agency, USA TODAY mocks Byron Murphy to Seahawks

Nearly a week has passed since the NFL’s negotiating window opened and free agency began. While the dust has not yet completely settled, some teams around the league were able to secure big-name free agents and fill empty holes ahead of the draft in April.

After taking a look at the moves made week one, USA TODAY’s Nate Davis has put tother his latest mock, and similar to his updated post-combine prediction, he is still projecting former University of Washington cornerback Byron Murphy to the Seahawks.

“At 5-11 and a newly rocked-up 190 pounds, he still doesn’t resemble Seattle’s corner prototype,” Davis writes. “But this overhauled secondary needs more firepower.”

Seattle made a number of moves to kick off free agency, including re-signing some veterans and bringing in a new kicker in Jason Myers and guard in Mike Iupati. But the Seahawks also lost some valuable players, particularly in the secondary, like Earl Thomas and Justin Coleman.

With just four picks in this year’s draft, the Seahawks are candidates to trade out of the first round but should strongly consider Murphy should he be available at No. 21 overall.
