MANILA, Philippines – Former PBA player Mac Cardona got off the rails again.
Set for a comeback in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), Cardona landed in the Makati police station early Saturday, May 5, for charges of attempted homicide after stabbing his ex-partner inside their condominium.
Bianca Nicole Jackes, who just got out of surgery on her left arm, alleged that Cardona was "high on drugs" when the stabbing incident happened.
Contrary to the Makati City Police report, Jackes said she did not figure in a heated argument with Cardona.
“[Unlike what] the news says, there was no argument that happened, Mark went there, high on drugs, trying to get back with me and I refused," said Jackes through her Instagram stories.
"I didn't even yell after getting stabbed because I didn't want to wake up my kids. All I did was try to calm him down."
This is not the first time the 37-year-old cager was embroiled in controversy.
Two years ago, Cardona overdosed on pills in an apparent suicide attempt. It was also reported that he got arrested after Jackes complained of domestic violence.
Just last February, Cardona faced estafa charges for allegedly pawning a stolen vehicle for P300,000.
"I just advise anyone who's in an abusive relationship or has been a victim of domestic violence to just get out. I've been out for two years but it's still haunting me," said Jackes.
The former De La Salle University standout last played in the PBA in 2017, when he was given a new lease on life by the GlobalPort Batang Pier following his pill overdose.
He is slated to play for the San Juan Knights in the MPBL next conference.
"At the end of the day, I'm really grateful that at least, I just got stabbed in the arm but it has done a lot of damage to my nerves and my muscles." – Rappler.com
