After Scream 7 broke franchise records, Scream 8 is officially in the works, with Suits writing duo penning the script

Ghostface in Scream (2022).

Ghostface's killing spree is far from over, as Scream 8 is officially happening, and the slasher sequel has already found its writers.

Following the success of the seventh film, Spyglass is developing Scream 8 with writing duo Lilla and Nora Zuckerman on board to pen the script, as reported by Deadline.

The Zuckerman sisters are best known for working as writers and co-executive producers on many popular series, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe, Prodigal Son, and, most recently, served as showrunners on Peacock's Poker Face. Although the Zuckermans don't have a ton of experience in the horror genre, the duo did write the pilot for Hulu's scrapped Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

Scream 8's confirmation is not a huge surprise, as Scream 7 rocked the box office this year, becoming the most successful movie in the franchise, pulling in over $204 million worldwide (BoxOfficeMojo). However, this means that original Scream scribe and Scream 7 writer and director Kevin Williamson will presumably not be returning, at least to write the script. Williamson has been with the franchise for a while, penning the scripts for the first four Scream movies directed by Wes Craven before returning for the latest installment.

It is not clear what premise the new movie will follow, as the franchise has already faced a few reboots. If it found a completely new director, Scream 8 could well introduce a new group of victims just like Scream 5 did. Or, it could focus on Sidney Prescott's daughter, Tatum Evans, played by Isabel May, who was pretty much introduced as the new final girl in Scream 7

As for Scream's beloved legacy cast, Scream 7 made a point of bringing back a bunch of characters, including Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers, and even Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher, so it would make sense to see Sidney leading the franchise again. Before Scream 7 hit screens, Campbell said she already had a "great idea" for Scream 8, but it all depended on how well Scream 7 did.

Scream 8 does not yet have a release date. Scream 7 is available to purchase on digital now. For more, check out our ranking of the best Scream movies, and keep up with upcoming horror movies heading your way.
