CHANDIGARH: Police on Sunday arrested three more people in the Sector 48 farmers’ protest case from Mohali and city after scanning footage of the incident in which two BJP leaders Sanjay Tandon and mayor Ravi Kant Sharma were gheraoed and their cars damaged on Saturday.
Police also added Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC. They had earlier booked and arrested 22 protesters for rioting and attempt to murder. All of them were released on bail.
However, a court on Sunday sent the three accused, Malvinder Singh, Rajinder Singh and Harpreet Singh, in judicial custody. Police faced resistance when they had gone to arrest them.
A video of people gheraoing the police team and asking how they were making the arrests without informing the Mohali went viral. People were seen objecting to a cop of a rank of ASI who reached without a nameplate. Another video that went viral showed an person claiming he was arrested and released on bail on Saturday night but the police again arrested him from Maloya.
