After re-signing, Darqueze Dennard wants Bengals to be NFL’s top secondary

Darqueze Dennard re-signing with the Cincinnati Bengals went official Monday, as the team inked him to a one-year extension.

Now he has big plans.

As seen in the video above, Dennard hopes the Bengals can boast the NFL’s best secondary.

And it isn’t too outlandish, provided the fit with new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo goes better than the one with Teryl Austin last year. Dre Kirkpatrick and William Jackson are still a solid duo on the boundaries and sophomore Jessie Bates has shown flashes of being one of the league’s better deep, rangy safeties. Shawn Williams, as usual, continues to fly under the radar as an enforcer.

Dennard is a big part of this goal, though. The Bengals weren’t sure to get him back and added B.W. Webb, who now turns into a superb depth pice. Dennard wanted a chance to play the boundary somewhere but didn’t seem to find what he wanted on the open market.

Presumably back in the slot and with plenty to prove, Dennard has set the bar for his unit and will have to lead by example.
